RidesGuided Rides:Friday, June 1st, 2012 and Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 2 rides per day/depart at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. both days. Fort Riley, Home of the Big Red One - There are two scheduled Guided Rides to Fort Riley on Friday June 1st and Saturday June 2nd. These rides are scheduled to depart City Cycle Sales Harley Davidson at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. both days. The ride will take approx 3 hours. Fort Riley is a United States Army installation located in Northeast Kansas, on the Kansas River, between Junction City and Manhattan. The Fort Riley Military Reservation covers 100,656 acres (407 km²) in Geary and Riley counties There are two Museum's on Fort Riley (U.S. Cavalry Museum, and the The 1st infantry Museum) both located on Main Post. The rider will need to have appropriate safety gear in order to enter Fort Riley. This gear includes: helmet, full fingered gloves, light colored long sleeve shirt or reflective vest, pants, and boots. The visit to Fort Riley will be one that you will not want to miss. For those that would like to eat at a 5-Star dining facility on post there will be dining facilities open (Pay as you go). There are four opportunities to visit as a group or if the rider chooses, he or she can do a self-guided ride. Harley Davidson supports guided rides only when there is a specific need to control access to and from certain locations. Therefore, the majority of rides listed below are self-guided. Get with your friends and new friends and go ride. Self-Guided Rides There are nine (9) different self guided ride packets that the rider can choose from. The rider can choose the times that they wish to make that ride. Double Dam Ride - this ride will take your North on U.S. Hwy 77. Along the way you will get to view the beautiful Republican River. You will cross over the Dam and get see the some of the Largest Man Made Lake in Kansas. After crossing over the Dam, the rider will travel north U.S. Hwy 77/82 toward the little town of Riley, KS. Once the rider departs Riley, KS, they will be traveling on U.S. Hwy 24 toward Manhattan KS and the Tuttle Creek Dam. There will be many opportunities traveling to see these two Dams for the rider to make modifications to the route taken to see the Dams. This will be a beautiful ride. The ride is approximately 47 miles each way for a total of 94 miles (about 2 hours). Casino Fun Ride - this ride will take you East toward Topeka and then North to several Casino's. (Sax & Fox, Prairie Band and Golden Eagle Casino to name a few). The rider will have the opportunity to us I-70 or, U.S. 24 or a combination of both roads to get to the Casino area. This ride will take approximately 1 and 3/4 hours one way. Belleville Boyer Exhibit - (The Boyer Museum of Animated Carvings houses a large collection of animated carvings and motion displays by local folk artist Paul Boyer). For the rider that wants to put some miles on their bike this ride is for you. This ride will take you North toward the Nebraska Border. It is 112 miles each way. The rider will travel North on U.S. Hwy 77 toward Clay Center. From Clay Center you will travel west on U.S. Hwy 24 until you reach U.S. Hwy 81, from here you will turn North heading toward Concordia and ultimately arrive in Belleville, Ks. This ride will afford the rider the opportunity to see over 100 miles of the Kansas North Central Territory. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum - The Eisenhower Presidential Center, officially known as the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum or Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, includes the Eisenhower presidential library, President Dwight David Eisenhower's boyhood home, Museum, and gravesite. The center is located in Abilene, Kansas, home of President Eisenhower. To get to the Library and Museum the rider will travel west 25 miles to the town of Abilene Kansas. Not only is Abilene home to the 34th President of the United States, it also have many antique shops and little hide away cafes to see as well. Here is a web link to the Library and Museum: http://www.eisenhower.archives.gov/ Rolling Through the Beautiful Flinthills - as far as riding the through the Flinthills. The rider will have many route choices to see some of the majestic beauty of the Kansas Flinthills. There is a Stone located on I-70 East heading toward Topeka and also one located if the rider is coming from the east and heading west on I-70. The rider will be able to venture off onto many of the smaller roads and just ride and enjoy some of the beauty and the curves of the roads. This ride can be as long or short as the rider chooses. This ride is one that you would not want to miss. Over J-Hill road and south to Lyon's Creek - This ride ties into the Flinthills. The rider will get to choose and pick which little Kansas towns to ride to. Some of the choices are: Woodbine, Herington, White City, and Dwight to name a few. By taking the route to cover these towns the rider will have rode 98 miles. A nice ride with a lot of scenery to view. Lindsborg and Marquette - Kansas Motorcycle Museum: this ride will take you west on I-70 or on U.S. Hwy Old 40 to Salina KS. From Salina the rider will travel south on I-135 and take exit 78 toward Lindsborg. After visiting the town of Lindsborg. Lindsborg has a special Old World charm that springs from rich Swedish heritage. Unique shops and restaurants, museums, art galleries and working studios, cultural and ethnic events, great places to stay, and lots of friendly people await you in Lindsborg. Next the rider will travel west another 10 miles to the town of Marquette. In Marquette the rider will have the opportunity to visit the Kansas Motorcycle Museum. The Kansas Motorcycle Museum is home to over 100 vintage and rare motorcycles of all various makes and models. It also has numerous motorcycle racing memorabilia, photos, posters, and much, much more! This ride is approximately 80 miles one way (1 and 1/2 hours one way) for a total of 160 miles round trip and riding time of 3 hours. Alma - known for their Cheese. This ride will take the rider through the beautiful Kansas Flinthills. The ride is approximately 53 miles one way and 106 miles round trip for about 2 hours total of riding time. Once the rider gets to Alma they will have the opportunity to visit the Alma Creamery (if open). Wamego - Oz Museum, Columbian Theater and Wineries - Follow the yellow brick road and arrive in Wamego Kansas. Wamego is home of the Oz Museum (web site - http://www.visitwamego.com/Things-To-Do/Oz-Attractions/Oz-Museum/default.aspx ) The Oz Museum is home to one of the largest collections of privately-owned Oz memorabilia in the world, the OZ Museum is a bright, colorful stop on Wamego’s main street. Also while in Wamego, you can visit the Oz Winery (web site - http://www.visitwamego.com/Things-To-Do/Oz-Attractions/Oz-Winery/default.aspx ) The winery features a tasting room where you can sample award winning wines, such as “Witch in a Ditch,” “A Witch Gone Good,” and “Run Toto Run!” Check out the gift shop where you will find wine accessories and a host of other items to help make your next party or picnic something to write home about. Lastly, you might want to take a look at the Columbian Theatre. The Columbian Theatre offers year-round entertainment opportunities for the entire family. The unique second floor Peddicord Playhouse is the venue for professional stage productions, ranging from Broadway musicals to country jamborees. The theater is also home to the largest single repository of artifacts from the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair also known as the Columbian Exposition. These include the beautifully restored murals that line the walls of the Playhouse. The ground floor of the theater houses the Swogger Gallery, which features changing art exhibits. The ride to Wamego is between 36 to 42 miles depending on which route that the rider takes. The shortest route is to ride to Manhattan Kansas and pick up Hwy 24 and ride into Wamego, or the rider can take I-70 East and take the Wamego Exit and ride North. The total number of miles for this trip is 72 to 84 miles (45 minutes each way). |
